About Me & My Mission

Weilà weilà raga! Welcome to my website! By way of introduction, I’m Tom and I run the YouTube channel Weilà Tom. Since 2011, I’ve had the great pleasure of living out my passion by teaching and sharing my knowledge of Italian and English with fellow language enthusiasts around the world.

I grew up in the United States with both English (my native language) and Italian (my second language). I started formally studying Italian as teenager and have since gone on to study French, Portuguese, Neapolitan, Spanish, and Japanese.

I have a long history with teaching. Before I was even a teenager, I partook in a teacher training program offered by my elementary school in which I shadowed and worked alongside a teacher. As a teenager in high school, I often worked alongside my Italian teacher in explaining lessons to grading exams. In college, after having placed out of my university’s available Italian courses, I was employed as a university Italian tutor for undergraduate and graduate level students of Italian. I underwent my university’s tutor training program and later was promoted as a tutor of students with special needs for interdisciplinary studies and public speaking.

Since having my YouTube channel and running my own teaching business for the last 12+ years, I’ve had the great opportunity of teaching students of all ages, from all over the world, of every level. As a life-long student of languages myself, I know what its like to be in the student’s position, which I believe is crucial to being a successful teacher.

In 2017, I obtained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate with a specialization in Teaching Business English from the University of Toronto and in 2019 I obtained an level C1 (Advanced High) Certificate in Italian from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

My mission is to help all language enthusiasts around the world to reach their goals and to show all people that learning languages is fun, cool, and one of the best things you could choose to do as it opens you up to so many wonderful things in life. Just like that useful classmate you turn to for help with your course work, I hope that you can turn to all things Weilà Tom for simple and clear explanations of Italian and English and the language learning journey.
